FLO IS BACK

It’s with much relief and gratitude that I inform you that Flo is BACK.

–Ew. No. Not that Flo. I’m talking about that Aunt Flo we actually adore that lifts your spirits and makes you dance around the room. The Flo that doesn’t make you crave seconds and thirds of Ben and Jerry’s and make you more emotionally unstable than you ever knew was possible. I’m letting this joke go on for too long, but it’s imperative for me that it lands. (did it land? hello? are you there?)

I’m talking about Florence + The Machine.

(this is irrelevant, you can definitely skip this)
Remember when I admitted to day-dreaming while on the elliptical? Well okay- when I took ballet at KU, I was very into F+TM’s Ceremonials. So much so, that- to this day- I’ve daydreamed about doing a ballet performance to that entire album. I have it all choreographed. I even know what leotards I’d wear (it’s plural because I’d do costume changes OF COURSE). Flo got me through many an elliptical-ride. I credit her for this gluteus maximus and I love her indefinitely.

Last night, I stumbled upon her new single What Kind of Man on Spotify and might have played it 5 times in a row before processing how obsessive I was being. IRREGARDLESS, I don’t intend to stop with this song. I really couldn’t wiggle into my leotard fast enough–this song is too excellent.  FLO- WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN????

(okay, come back—- don’t skip this part. this is the good stuff)

If you can handle brief nudity, then GET TO CLICKIN’. This video activated my underused tear ducts, so prepare for that. If you, you know, have a soul.

PLAYLIST EIGHT

Folly was long overdue for a little nip and tuck, so I spent a little time over the weekend injecting Botox into all of her CSS codes while watching the latest SNL. That’s why she looks a little different, though she prefers to call it “Bey’d Out” (and would like it if you did too).

PLAYLIST8       Here’s the creme de la creme of the musique I’ve been listening to as of late. Some oldies (TLC), some new jams hot and fresh out the kitchen.

Bath– The entire Bath album carried me through GRE and graduate applications, so I feel like I owe it some respect on Folly.
Caribou– I was lucky enough to see Caribou earlier in November, and their live performance is just as incredible as their album. At some points in the show, the bass was so heavy that I could feel it in my organs. Literally. Someone please back me up on this
Kishi Bashi– I was pretty unfamiliar with Kishi Bashi before this past week, but now it’s all I’ve listened to. Super fun, the lyrics are wonderful, and that violin is supa dank.
MNEK– courtesy tap: NSFW.
Beyonce– is you crazy??
Tei Shi– See Me is one of the few songs that calms me down. If you know me, almost NOTHING calms me down. I couldn’t leave it out.
TV on the Radio– I love you.

Is there an auditory synonym for umami yet? That could be reached if Anthony Bourdain read books on tape, but this playlist is my attempt.

Spotify PLAYLIST SEVEN

A few things:
– Enjoy.
– Give Lil Dicky a chance. He truly had me at that album cover and this song makes me  laugh every time.
– Tennis, Little Dragon, Lo-Fang are very obviously a running theme. My apologies but also, you’re welcome.
– Just in case you missed it, here is the best post I’ll probably ever write. If you weren’t here for the genesis of Folly, it might have slid right past you. I’m trying to be good to you.
– I took a week off of coffee (clearly I hate me) but NOW I’M BACK AND SPIRITS ARE HIGH.

PLAYLIST SIX

PLAYLIST6
I promise that one day I’ll stop slipping Arctic Monkeys into every damn playlist that I create. One day, but not today. Playlist Six is here and I have no freakin’ clue as to how this came baby about. Well- actually, I created it the moment I published Playlist Five and slipped songs into it as the month went by, one by one. Just like always. However, this playlist in no way “flows” or has a running theme. Sometimes chaos can be embraced, I’ve discovered. This is a learning curve for us all, people. Help me help you. Anyways, its a huge collection of the music I’ve run into lately. Little Dragon slithered its way into my earholes and I truly can’t stop the madness. So. Good. The Noise FM is a super dance-y band from Lawrence, KS who look like this and have a weird obsession with “the meat sweats”…now that’s a band I can get behind. (Don’t google meat sweats…save yourself). Harry Nilsson had to make an appearance on one of these playlists, so better now than never. I’ve definitely done a dance or two to that song in the kitchen while making dinner (AKA pouring wine). You are welcome in advance, come on over if you want to choreograph a dance to that song with me a lá GIRLS- it’s going to happen with or without you. Enjoy the playlist, suckas.

PLAYLIST FIVE

PLAYLIST FIVE.jpgClick Here For the Spotify Playlist

Ásgeir- King and Cross
I don’t know where this boy came from, but I want to go there. This voice is insane.
Jay-Z ft. Beyonce- Part II (On The Run)
Hozier- From Eden
Autre Ne Veut- Gonna Die
I’ve been slipping this guy into my playlists for a few months now because the whole album is incredible. How this guy can get his voice to hit that high is totally beyond me. I’m super into it.
La Roux- Sexotheque
Cosmo Sheldrake- The Moss
ASTR-Hold On We’re Going Home
Prinze George- Victor
Miguel ft. Wale- Bennie and The Jets
Hozier- Work Song
Grizfolk- The Struggle
Okay, story time. Grizfolk opened up for Wild Cub the other weekend at Vinyl and some friends and I went. I pulled a Ted Mosby with the lead singer and did the old, “Hi, have you met Ellyn?” routine. Shockingly to
no one, he fell head over heels for my home girl. To add, our night ended at Church so it was a success story for everyone.
Frank Ocean ft. Earl Sweatshirt- Super Rich Kids
Sky Ferreira- Love in Stereo
Nicki Minaj- Anaconda
How did this get here? Just kidding. I’m not even going to pretend to be embarrassed. (the 3:15 part is my fave)
Arctic Monkeys- I Want It All
Andy Bull- Baby I Am Nobody Now
Autre Ne Veut- I Wanna Dance With Somebody
Ásgeir- Head In The Snow
Seriously, can this guy sing me to sleep every night?
Miles Kane- Come Closer
I burn a lot of calories dancing to this.
La Roux- Cruel Sexuality
Ball Park Music- She Only Loves Me When I’m There
Troye Sivan- Happy Little Pill
This guy is such a little nugget!  I just want to squeeze his face a la Billy Madison when the little chunky kid says “Man, I can’t wait to go to high school!” and Billy Madison…well, we all know what happens.
Arctic Monkeys- Arabella
From the moment I heard this, I wanted to legally change my name to Arabella. The lyrics are incredible. I want to be Arabella.

Also, while I’m here…

PLAYLIST FOUR

Let me get inside your head HERE on Spotify

Sia- Chandelier
Little Daylight- Love Stories
Thank you, Dais.
Incan Abraham- Tuolumne
Some girlfriends and I stumbled (literally) into these guys at Sister Louisa’s Church the other week and ended up having such a fun night with them. They were touring at the moment and wanted to check out the city before their show at The Earl the next night, so we were happy to be their tour guides for the evening.  These guys are so nice and so talented…definitely look them up.
The Kite String Tangle- Given The Chance
The Preatures- Is This How You Feel?
It took me a bit of time to get into this song, but now it’s truly under my skin. I love it. I love it. That part where the boy starts to sing…woof.
Bleachers- I Wanna Get Better (RAC Remix)
CHVRCHES- Now Is Not The Time
Thief- Closer
I know this song is on other playlists, but it needed to make it to July to really….resonate.
La Roux- Uptight Downtown
I cannot listen to this song without dancing, it might be impossible. I’m so glad La Roux is still a SUPERHUMAN. I loved her when I was a wee 19 year old and now she’s a fixture in my Twenty-Something soundtrack as well. I’m sure my deep love for Betty Who stems from this female.
Arctic Monkeys- Snap Out Of It
Step Rockets- Heart Attack Again
Familiarize yourself with them, hopefully they’ll stick around for a while.
Raleigh Ritchie- Bloodsport
Raleigh Ritchie (Jacob Anderson) is Grey Worm from GoT! Mind blown? …don’t ever tell me I don’t do my homework.
Incan Abraham- Whidbey
Autre Ne Veut- Play by Play
Half Moon Run- Full Circle
This song is so out of left field. When I heard it the first time, I actually leaned over to change it until I got into the lyrics. At that point, I wanted to hear all the words and then found myself actually enjoying the song. It reminds me of some other song but I haven’t been able to put my finger on which, exactly.
Wrabel- Give It Time
Fun song, terrible lyrics. It really is an addictive song, I just wish he would have let me help him out a little bit.

Nothing fancy. Just enjoy.

PLAYLIST THREE

JUNE 2014.jpg

Here she is, as reliable as ever.

lot of favorites in this bad boy. Here’s a glimpse into what I’ve been scream-singing in the car with the windows down. A throwback from OK GO is making a much needed appearance…I feel like I should be more embarrassed by this. Who doesn’t want that track constantly playing in the background when they walk around anywhere? A lot of people, probably. In my defense (maybe?), there’s a Spice Girls cover in here so you know it’ll be a good one. The sentiments about dancing in your underwear from last month’s playlist post stand true for this month as well. You’re welcome.  ENJOY.
